Hi all, I am Susie.

My 89 year-old mother has been in a wonderful assisted-living facility for a week and seems to be adjusting fairly well. However, today she started to wander out of the facility. It seems to be difficult for her to find her way back to her room. Does anyone know of any electronic monitoring devices that would be helpful in keeping her safe?

My sister, Kathy and I have tried our level best to make sure that she is safe. I need some support and guidance so that we can handle the situation.

Thanks in advance,
Susie

(We have also asked this question in caring.com)

Hi, Susie, welcome to PCSN! I want to offer my support to you and your sister and hope that someone can soon offer you some suggestions. It sounds like a difficult situation and I do not have any similar experience, but hopefully someone with experience with electronic devices can respond to your question soon. Take Care,
Cathy

Hi Susie,
Thank you for writing. Please let me do a little research and get back with you. I did wonder, have you shared with the staff your concerns?
It might be good to let them know that you are worried. We had home care nurses contributing on the site last spring; they had many techniques and secrets of the trade that they used to help keep clients orientated when they were confused at night. One mentioned covering all of the mirrors so dementia patients would not be frightened by their unrecognizable reflection. There might be a simple solution that could be implemented now. I will look into that.

I will look check into the electronic options. Hang in there and take care of yourself too.

K. Fitzgerald
